Dreadful Grammar Mistakes
Thank goodness Sammy has been doing some blogging, cause I have been very, very lazy. Shame on me. I’ll try to deal with that vice, in the meantime…bear with me!
On my other blog (subtle advert follows: www.righterthanrain.wordpress.com ) I declared a little while back that I will henceforth be ignoring the rule of never splitting infinitives. That’s right, the ultimate grammar geek is neglecting the most hallowed rule of the English Language.
The simple reason is that, for example, “I really hate to drink coffee” and “I hate to really drink coffee” mean different things. In the former sentence, the meaning is that I seriously don’t like drinking coffee. In the latter, the meaning suggests that I hate to drink heavy doses of coffee, but not necessarily that I hate coffee altogether - see what I mean?
I will still be following the never-split-infinitives rule for assessed work, because rare is the examiner who tolerates these kinds of academically reasoned liberties. But here I will be splitting infinitives when necessary, and I’m proud of it! So no smart comments for me on my “dreadful grammar mistakes.”
